The term Pressotherapy is generally used to describe rehabilitation therapy designed to rebalance the interstitial compartments in conditions where there is chronic edema in the limbs which is either lymphatic or venous in origin, or a mixture of both.

This method is also effective in treating lymphedemas, venous insufficiency and venous ulcer. The origin of the pathological status in the different types of clinical cases of chronic venous insufficiency is a blockage of venous reflux. This maybe due to alterations in the valve system or to insufficiency of the muscular pump. Lymphatic insufficiency, characterized by lymphostatic edema has important differences from venous insufficiency. The main function of the lymphatic system is to remove both the large proteic molecules and the water associated with  these as well as the blood corpuscle elements present in interstitial spaces. Disturbances of the lymphatic function can be better understood taking two fundamental parameters into considerations: Lymphatic load and/or Lymphatic flow.

They are in fact edemas with different concentrations of protein caused by increased lymphatic load and edemas with decreased lymphatic flow due to lymphatic stasis. It is the initial stages of chronic lymphatic, venous or mixed edema that the pressotherapy method, associated with other methods, can be a decisive therapy.

This is natural evolution of electronic devices for presso-massage. It gradually and progressively drains fluids using a technique similar to hand massage which involves the application of differential pressure and a number of inflatable sections which are controlled by functioning sequences.

Pressotherapy works gently and painlessly on the connective tissue and water rich lymphatic tissue. In this way, it drains accumulated metabolic waste which can be responsible for acidification within the cells and can consequently cause acidosis, pain, fibroma, sclerosis, eczema, allergies and, in the most serious cases, tissue necrosis. This action makes it possible for the tissue to be enriched with nourishment and thus facilitates cell regeneration, and sometimes the rehabilitation of inactive arterial, venous and lymphatic vessels.

Pressotherapy is used in medical therapy for: phlebology, sports medicine, dermatology, geriatrics, surgical therapy, oncology, etc...

Under these conditions, Pressotherapy boosts the elimination process and the lymph drainage, so as to normalize the venous-lymphatic system.

The increase in dieresis in the patient may be seen as evidence of the effectiveness of Pressotherapy which makes it possible for the physician/technician to normalize the venous-lymphatic system.

Recommendation for the Pressotherapy treatment
Ascendant peristaltic Pressotherapy aims to prevent and treat hematic and lymphatic stasis which is not associated with cardio-respiratory pathology or varicose syndrome in the final stages, acute thrombophlebitis or acute lymphagitis.

Therefore, as a conservative treatment and for the prevention of complications caused by varicose syndrome, Pressotherapy is indicated for young people and adults who are suffering from:

- Hematic and lymphatic stasis of the lower and upper limbs in the initial stages of venous insufficiency.

- Retention caused by postural defects.

- Symptomatology of hematic and lymphatic stasis caused by overloading the lower limbs (See the types of job which oblige the worker to stand still for long periods of time and the obese).

- Cellulite treatment (hydrique cellulite).

- Pre & post liposuction or surgery.
